We are looking forward to our End of Year Picnic on June 17th! Some important information for you:
1) We intend to leave the school about 10:15ish (10:30 at the very latest). We are very excited that most parents are coming! We will meet you outside on Woodington Ave (in front of the school) at 10:15. We will all walk together to Dieppe Park. If by chance we leave before you arrive at the school, please meet us at Dieppe Park.
2) Last year some parents brought wagons for their students to ride in. Also many students brought balls, buckets, pails, shovels, skipping ropes, chalk etc to play with. You are more than welcome to do this again this year. Remember there is a big field at Dieppe Park that the students can play in.
3) There is also a small splash pad at Dieppe Park. ONLY STUDENTS WHOSE PARENTS ARE COMING CAN GO IN THE SPLASH PAD! Please make sure that your child brings a change of clothes and a towel if you chose to let them use the splah pad.
4) Please remember to pack your child 2 snacks, a drink and a lunch. Please also pack yourself a lunch. You may want to bring a blanket to use while you eat lunch.
5) Please remember to bring hats, sunscreen and water for the park.
6) We will leave the park about 2:15 and head back to school.
If you have any questions, please let us know. It'll be a great day. Let's hope it's sunny!!
We are also looking for any old small crayons that you no longer are using and are going to throw out. In addition, we are also looking to collect marker covers, juice/water bottle caps and laundry detergent caps. THANKS! :)
We are looking for paper towel rolls and toilet paper rolls. If you have any extra, we'd love if you send them to us. Thanks! :)
It is now TDSB policy that anyone wishing to volunteer in the classroom or go on school trips must have a criminal reference check done through TDSB. Please go to the office to receive a Police Check Form. Beginning in September, anyone who does not have a completed police check will no longer be able to come on school trips or even volunteer within the classroom. We are hoping that many parents will get their police checks as we LOVE having you in our classroom and also accompanying us on field trips. Thanks!
On Friday, our class said a very sad goodbye to Ms. Alannah! She finished her placement with us and we will miss her more than words can describe. Ms. Alannah made learning fun, and taught all of us so many new things. We wish Ms. Alannah the best on all her future adventures and look forward to hearing all about them!
Please sit down with your child and have a conversation around sharing food with one and other. We have a few children in our class, who have epi pens, as they have life threatening allergies. It is EXTREMELY important to speak with your child about NOT sharing any food that they bring to school. It is just as important, to discuss with your child, to never eat any food that another child offer's to them. We want to keep all our students safe. Thanks for understanding and having this discussion at home with your child. We will also have a similar discussion with the students at school!
Wednesday March 26th is Epilepsy awareness day (Purple Day)! Students are asked to come dressed in purple to show their support.
Purple day was started in 2008 by a nine year old in Nova Scotia. For more information on epilepsy, seizures, and what Purple day is all about, you can visit http://www.purpleday.org
Your child should have brought home their March Pizza Order form today. Money and pizza form are due no later than Thursday, March 20th.
Just a reminder that tomorrow is Pink Day at Earl Beatty. Students are asked to wear something pink as a way to show support for people who get bullied. Earl Beatty will have another pink day in April. April 9th will be International Day of Pink. It will be a day where communities across the country can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop bullying. The International Day of Pink was started in Nova Scotia when 2 high school students saw a boy wearing a pink shirt being bullied. The 2 students intervened but wanted to do more. So they decided to buy pink shirts and a few days later got everyone at school to arrive wearing pink shirts. It resulted in an entire school stopping bullying. It gave a clear message that together we can stop bullying!!
This Thursday morning, there will be a bake sale at Earl Beatty. This bake sale has been organized by the student council. All money raised will be donated to the Heart & Stroke Foundation! Our class will have an opportunity to visit the bake sale from 9:20 - 9:30. Students are welcome to bring in money so that they can buy something at the bake sale. Student council are also accepting donations of baked goods (NUT -FREE). Anyone wishing to make a contribution can drop off their bake goods Thursday morning on the table located outside the office. Thanks for your support.
The students are busy again creating 3D objects out of recycled materials. If you have any tape donations, we will gladly accept them! THANKS!! :)
Mrs. David found out late this afternoon that she will be involved in Jury Duty until the weekend. All the witnesses are finished. Tomorrow will be about closing arguments. Thursday the judge will instruct the jury about how to make the best decision. Friday is the beginning of deliberations. Mrs. David is looking forward to seeing all the students again! :)
Mrs. David has been learning a lot about the court system this week. She has been picked for a trial that began this afternoon. The trial is estimated to last 5-7 days and then there will be deliberations. Mr. Campbell has graciously agreed to continue coming in until Mrs. David can come back. This is great for the students for consistency. Mrs. David misses all the students and has been talking to Ms. Blakely each night (we usually do anyway!). We are so lucky to have Ms. Blakely, as she keeps our class running. We also want to thank Ms. Alannah for all her contributions as well.
Please make sure that your child wears waterproof mittens. Today we had a few children that had very cold and wet hands because they were wearing knitted mitts. Please make sure they also have extra socks in case their feet get wet. Thanks for your cooperation. Please also continue to have your child practice getting dressed in their winter gear by themselves. This is a VERY important task for your child to be able to do. It develops their independence and is necessary when we are all getting ready to go outside as a class.
Tomorrow night, please remember to have your child in our classroom at 5:45. The music concert begins at 6:00, upstairs in the big gym. Please also remember to check out the Student Craft Show that will be happening in the Library between 5:30-8:15pm. Me to We has organized this craft show. All money raised will be donated to an adopted village in Haiti to assistance with their health resources and health education.
There is no poem of the week for this week or next week while we prepare for our Holiday Concert
A reminder that the Holiday Sing-Along is on December 19th at 9:00 am. If you can, please have your child wear either something red or green.
Now that winter is upon us, please take this opportunity to have your child practice putting on their own snow pants, jackets, hats, boots and mitts in a reasonable about of time. They should also be able to zip their own jackets. However, if they need help, you can begin their zipper and have them zip it up the rest of the way. We understand it is easier and faster to just do it for them, but it is extremely important for your child to be able to dress themselves. Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us with this.
Dear Parents,
On Thursday, December 12th
the kindergartens will be performing in a Kindergarten Holiday Concert. This
concert will take place between 6:00 pm - 6:30 pm in the gym in the community
centre. Students should arrive in their class at 5:45 pm, so that we can
organize them and bring them upstairs to the gym. After the kindergarten
concert, students must be picked up in their classroom NO LATER than 6:45 pm as the rest of the school will be
performing in their Holiday Concert from 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
A letter will be coming home
in the Thusrday Folders so that you can let us know if you’ll be coming to the Kindergarten
Holiday Concert. Please keep an eye out for it.
Mrs. David received a letter in the mail that informed her that she has been chosen for Jury Duty (or at least to sit and wait to see if they pick her). She was informed to go downtown to the courthouse on January 6th, 2014. Mrs. David isn't sure how many days she'll be there (the last time it was 4 days). We do have an EXCELLENT supply booked for the time she'll be away and both Ms. Blakely and Ms. Alannah (who will be there everyday from January-March) will be there.
We want to take this time to THANK all the parents who have volunteered in our classroom and on trips. Without you we would not be able to go on trips. For those parents that have been a HUGE help inside the classroom, THANK YOU! We appreciate all your time that you spend with us!!! Honestly, we can't thank you enough.
Please remember that Nov. 28th is Backwards Day!! We look forward to seeing our students wearing their things backwards!!!
Students
are being given the opportunity to create a piece of art (an ornament, a
holiday bracelet, winter stained glass, paintings/prints, sculptures, greeting
cards etc.,) that the Me To We Club will then sell at a Holiday Craft Show. All
money raised will be donated to an adopted village in Haiti. The art show will be held from
5:30 pm – 8:15 pm on Thursday,
December 12th in the library.
Families
will have the opportunity to visit the Craft Show before and after the Holiday
Concert.
As some
of you may have heard, we were originally going to support an adopted village
in Sierra Leone. However, the needs of this adopted village have recently been
met through the work of Free the Children and the Adopt A Village Program. This
is great news, as the whole foundation of the Adopted A Village Program is to
provide countries and communities who are in need, the tools, education, and
foundation to become more self-sufficient and independent, so ultimately their
need for charity deceases over time.
Thank you
for your cooperation in playing a role to help a country that is in need of
much support.
Sincerely,
The Me To
We Club
The Earl Beatty students and
staff did a fantastic job collecting non-perishable food for the “We Scare
Hunger” Campaign. The Daily Food Bank came to our school and collected 904 cans
of food!
As a way to show appreciation
for school’s efforts in helping their community, we are going to have a
Community Spirit Day on Friday, December 13th. Student and staff are
asked to wear their Earl Beatty t-shirt or a t-shirt with images of Canadian
symbols/words on it. We look forward to seeing everyone on Community Spirit
Day!
