When Will It Be Spring?

There is an important notice in your child's bag today about Fifth's Disease.  There has been two confirmed cases of it in kindergarten (but not our class)

Yesterday we said another sad "see you later" to one of our ECE students Amena.  She has been in our class since January and we, as well as the class, have loved having her in our class.  She has promised to come back and visit though :)

During centre time, I received a letter from two girls in our class.  Apparently we need a new computer! :)

We are lucky enough to have Mr. Campbell back while Mrs. David is celebrating Passover. We read a story this morning, appropriately titled "When Will It be Spring?"

In the afternoon, we worked on some adding and subtracting:

We also read "The Little Red Hen (Makes a Pizza)" and talked about co-operation

The story inspired G.D. and L.M. to make pizza at centre time!

Pink Day

Today our classroom was a sea of pink! So many students had something pink on (including ties or bandanas). We also offered students pink buttons for anyone who wanted to wear one, so that everyone was included!

Take a look:

A reminder that tomorrow is International Day of Pink!

We had music this morning, some of our class got to play the instruments to "Aikendrum" and we came up with our own words to the song; see if your child can remember some of the yummy things we came up with.

We also sang a song about a man named Joe who works in a button factory. There's lots of fun actions to go along with this song:

After lunch, we did some graphing of our favourite ice cream flavours. We got all sorts of neat flavours from the class, mint chip, bubble gum, cotton candy, even Spiderman ice cream! We had so many neat kinds of ice cream that we had to come up with an "other" category! Of course, we also got some old favourites like chocolate and vanilla :)

A.J. and C.B. were busy cooking in the house centre:

M.D. was busy balancing and measuring in the math centre:

L.M. was making pictures on the light table:

There was also something exciting going on right outside our classroom! For International Day of Pink tomorrow, the GSA of Earl Beatty was busy putting up all the pictures our school has done for our "Wall of Pink".  We took some time to go out and look at all the different things our school stands up for or against.  They were also really excited to find their own pictures! :)

Happy Monday!

We hope you all had a great weekend. It was a busy Monday in our class today!

C.A. & B.W. built a ramp and tested how far the cars would travel on it.

G.D. & R.T. were using one of our art books to come up with ideas of things to make

Q.G. and G.F. were busy learning about dinosaurs

M.D. and M.R. were problem-solving the best way to make tunnels in the sand.

J.M. made a snail out of play-doh, she said it was "super easy" to make :)

M.D. made a plan at the block center, and here is what he made:

Even Olaf from Frozen made an appearance in our class today!

Tomorrow morning there is Dental Screening happening at our school.

Brush-O-Mania

PLEASE SEE AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT CLASS ANNOUNCEMENT THAT HAS BEEN POSTED. THANKS!

This morning the students took part in Brush-O-Mania! A dental hygienist came to visit and taught the students the best way to brush their teeth. She brought examples of foods that have sticky sugar in them, as well as healthy alternatives. The students each have a toothbrush of their own which they used to "brush their teeth" for 3 whole minutes during the presentation!
Each student has a small tube of toothpaste, a toothbrush, and sticker in their backpack. At snack time the students were a lot more conscious about the sugar they were eating and the importance of brushing their teeth at home!

During centres this afternoon one of our ECE students set up an underwater zone on the carpet. The students had fun playing with the toy fish and learning more about underwater animals.
At the art table, the kindergarteners used glue to make seashell creations. Many students gave their seashells googly eyes!
Our reading centre has become the new home of Ms.Blakely's poems from the entire school year. A.J and M.A worked together to read the poems, just like we do every morning at circle!

By the end of centre time, the reading corner was a popular place to be! Students could be seen "playing teacher" and reading books to the class.
