Hindus around the world are celebrating Diwali. Diwali means "row of lights" and celebrates Light over Darkness. Candles and oil lamps (diyas) glow in the darkness as the sunsets. They flickers in windows, rooftops and even float down rivers. People who celebrate Diwali, clean their hoes, decorate with flowers and set out many candles and diyas. Some families take gifts and sweets to relatives for Diwali. Diwali is the most important holiday in the Hindu Calendar. Our students are learning about this celebration (which is one of the Festival of Lights). Today we introduced the students to Diwali using two different books.
