Building

Today a few students built a very creative house using many materials from all around the class. M.C. first created a plan of the house and then built it. When asked about their house G.D. said: "a witch lives here and may cast a spell on us" and R.T. said "it is okay because we have potion".  M.C. told us that they used many things to build their house, including: rocks, pine cones, shells and blocks. Many kindergarten expectations were covered in this task. For example: "Use technological problem solving skills (questioning, planning, predicting, communication) in free exploration, focused exploration and guided exploration". When asked what they would add to their house, they answered that they would add food. We asked the students this question as a way to develop their critical thinking. Another expectation that was covered through this activity was "Communicate and record results and findings after constructing things" (record ideas using pictures and words). Have a listen to the students as they explain the construction of their house.
